Bug's Stinky T-Shirts - FINISHED!!!

After many hours of work - a few clothes pins for my nose - and lots of help from Mother.

We finished the binding while watching the Closing Ceremonies for the Olympics - though in some ways the binding was much more entertaining...  Bug's Bride now has to finish a few details by tying the blocks that are extra large but it is now in their hands.  Off to new projects!!!

Bug's Stinky T-Shirts

A number of years ago I promised my little brother I would make him a t-shirt quilt.  Now mumble years later I am getting to the project.  It started out small since he had only given me about 6 shirts.  Then I announced to my mother that I was ready to start on Bug's quilt and out of the attic she pulls a huge garbage bag full to t-shirts.  It quickly went from barely big enough to be a lap blanket to an over-sized Queen.

My DH helped me come up with the grid paper for the initial outline.  In one of those crazy moments I woke up at 3AM and tacked all the pieces together on the "map".

 Then came time to prep the shirts.  Mother was nice enough to help cut off fronts/backs that were not needed and do some pressing.

 Then after reading this I picked up the right interfacing and we were off to the races.  The downside to most of these shirts was that they had been worn by a teenage boy lots with minimal washing so as soon as the iron hit them the room was permeated with stinky boy.

 After many hours and lots of help from Mother we got everything lined and into the right size square for it's row.  Here is the final lay out in two shots - it is a large quilt after all!

Sadly this will not be done in time for his birthday but maybe no more than a month late.  Wish me luck!!!

A New Challenge...

A couple of years a go a good friend challenged me to do a project for myself.  I told her I do that all the time but then realized I most often give my projects away.  The crazy thing is usually I don't even have proof that I have done the project since it leaves my studio before I even photograph it.  I usually have to write a note in the card requesting photographs.  I also find that I don't really log what I have completed anywhere so where better than the internet?  This blog will be progress updates of different projects I have underway, postings of old things I have completed and maybe even a few new ideas I want to get done someday.

First off - the quilt that was started as the challenge by my good friend.  This post is just the initial thoughts for the project and I will use labels to tag back to the progress.
